Terms of use

These terms

These terms cover the konfig.live website, the Konfig app for macOS, and the planning service the app uses ("Konfig", "we", "us"). By using any of them you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Konfig.

02

What Konfig is

You tell Konfig what you want to be true on your Mac, for example an application installed or a project ready to run. Konfig inspects your Mac, makes a plan, asks for your approval, carries the plan out, and then checks the result independently and shows you the evidence.

Konfig is in a private alpha. Features will change, some requests will not be supported yet, and the service may be interrupted while we improve it.

03

Invites and access

Access is by invite code. A code works once and connects one Mac; keep it to yourself.

We may revoke access, for example if a code is shared or the service is misused.

Joining the waitlist does not guarantee an invite. You can ask to be removed at any time.

04

Your Mac and your approval

Konfig changes your Mac only after you approve the plan it shows you, and only within the scope that plan names.

Some changes run through other installers (for example Homebrew or a project's own tools). Konfig checks the outcome afterwards, but cannot always restrict what those installers do while they run; the plan says when that is the case.

You are responsible for reviewing a plan before you approve it, and for keeping backups of anything important.

05

Your requests and your work

What you type, your files and your projects remain yours. We claim no rights over them. Konfig's server processes a request only to make its plan and does not keep it; the full record of each run stays on your Mac.

06

Acceptable use

Please don't use Konfig to break the law or anyone else's rights; to install or configure software you are not licensed to use; to attack, probe or overload Konfig or other systems; to try to get around its approval and verification steps; or to resell or share access.

07

You approve every plan

Every change starts as a plan. Before Konfig touches anything, it shows you the scope of what it will do, and nothing happens until you approve it. After it runs, Konfig verifies the result against that plan and tells you plainly what worked, what it could not do, and anything it could not prove worked.

If a result isn't what you wanted, refine your request and Konfig will give you a new plan to approve, so you can get back on track. Plans are made with the help of an AI model, so read each one before you approve it.

08

Other people's software

Applications, runtimes and packages Konfig installs come from their own publishers and are governed by their own licences and terms. Konfig checks that an application is the publisher's own, but we are not responsible for third-party software.

09

Price

The alpha is free. If we introduce paid plans, we will tell you the price before you are charged, and nothing will be charged without your agreement.

10

Our software

Konfig, its app, website and service belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use them during the alpha. Please don't copy, resell or reverse-engineer them except where the law allows.

11

Privacy

How we handle data is described in our Privacy policy. In short: Konfig's server does not store what you ask, and keeps usage only as counts.

12

Changes and availability

We may update these terms as Konfig develops; the date at the top will change, and significant changes will be announced in the app. We may change, pause or stop parts of the service, especially during the alpha.

13

Stopping

You can stop at any time: quit Konfig and move it to the Bin. Its run history is in its own folder on your Mac, which you can delete. We can end your access if these terms are broken or if we close the alpha.

14

Responsibility

Konfig is built not to delete your files or your data: it only adds what is missing, and changes only what the plan you approved names.

Konfig is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. You use it at your own discretion and are responsible for the plans you approve.
